"REWIND" - MAYBE THE WORLD'S FIRST TRUE REVERSE FILM
(OPENING AT THE 60th LOCARNO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, SWITZERLAND ON AUGUST 5, 2007)
Made in India, "Rewind" is possibly the world's first true reverse film. In the sense that in "Rewind", the film starts from the end and goes to the beginning.
There have been other films like Christopher Nolan's "Memento", Director Gaspar Noé's brutal french film "Irreversible" and even the "Memento inspired Tamil film "Ghajini" (which Aamir Khan is remaking). But all these films are not genuine reverse films. In all these films, the scenes are reverse that is scene 100 will play first followed by scene 99, 98, and so on but within the scenes (say scene 100), the scene will play straight.
"Rewind" avoids precisely that. Rewind tries to take the form of Christopher Nolan's "Memento" further. In "Rewind", the scenes are reverse, and within the scenes too, the action is in reverse.
Rewind is opening on August 5, 2007 at the 60th Locarno International Film Festival, Switzerland, a festival as old as Cannes and Venice and one of the most prestigious film festivals in Europe. It has also been selected at the Montreal World Film Festival, Canada, the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, USA.
